Shockwave Therapy

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy

Under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Extracorporeal (meaning being applied from outside of the body) Shockwave therapy is used for the treatment of chronic stable  tendinopathies or conditions that have lasted over 6 months and have not responded to the usual physiotherapy, osteopathic or chiropractic interventions. Research and studies have found it to be particularly effective at kickstarting the healing process in Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles tendon issues, calcific tendons, Adhesive Capsulits (Frozen Shoulder) in the pain free stiff stage, Tennis & Golfers elbow (lateral and medial epicondylosis) and for muscular stiffness.  It is only indicated in chronic conditions, our unit is a Radial Shockwave machine.

Three to five treatments

Research suggests that three to five treatments are helpful in beginning the recovery of refractory (difficult) issues.  After that time and if you feel you are improving with the treatments you can opt for further sessions.

The shockwave treatment may cause pain during and after treatment for up to 48 hours. Sometimes bruising, skin irritation and transient nerve pain. No side effects have be shown to be long lasting.

I can tone down the treatment to make it comfortable for your specific pain tolerance, but you need to know that in order to stimulate the tissues there may be some discomfort involved.

FEES

Shockwave therapy at no additional charge on top of the normal fees for treatment.  It is an added service that I offer.
